SCCYC is proud of its racing roots and takes pride in the number of members turning out for every Santa Monica bay race. Saturday, January 7th was the first in the Berger Stein Series of races, hosted by Del Rey Yacht Club. SCCYC had five boats racing under its burgee; Gary Brockman aboard Squall, Rob Dekker on Cuchulainn, Jon Rush Gomez aboard Astrid, Lenny Gordon sailing on Sunshine and Monica Chaban aboard Rascal.
Shout out to Rascal! She finished first in her class, ahead of the second place boat by nearly six minutes.
In addition to the boats from our club, many SCCYC members crewed. Michael Blunt, John Thomas, Jotham Schwartz, Ryan Burke, Kris Helm, Jerome Sammarcelli, Scott McKenny, AlecOffenberger, Mark Brazil and myself, Bruce Fleck.
Alec was on the first boat to finish, Revo, out of California Yacht Club with a corrected time five minutes faster than the boat in second place.
