2025 Deep Water series off to a great start

Vincent Paternoster | Published on 4/6/2025

Following the Super Bowl regatta hosted by SMWYC where dinghies raced in the ocean, the racers were unanimous. Racing in the ocean is way more fun.
This triggered the idea for the Deep Water series, aptly named in contrast with the Shallow Water series, a popular series raced inside the marina.

The conditions could not have been more pleasant with warm temperatures, following what was gale force winds and cold fronts in the past week. Breeze was quite light which did not suit well the 2 First 14 which excel in 15+ kts wind. Only on the way back to the dock in race 5 was a brief surge of speed as reported by Paul Devanneaux, skipper of "Sails Up!".

Alejandro Bugacov, assisted by his wife Veronica, was our Primary Race Officer while Devin Greaney and Joanne Custer were on the race course to provide support for the marks and be available as crash boat. Still Joanne was doing double duty as our official photographer. Thank you all for helping run this new event.
