On July 18, South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club proudly hosted the Women’s Sailing Association (WSA) Intro to Racing Clinic, welcoming approximately 30 enthusiastic participants for a day of learning, sailing, and camaraderie.
The morning began with engaging classroom presentations by SCCYC skippers Karyn Jones, Kellie Hardick, and Rob Dekker, along with WSA Commodore Kathy McDonough and Stine from Del Rey. Together, they shared valuable insights into the fundamentals of sailboat racing, covering topics such as race preparation, starting strategies, mark roundings, sail trim, and teamwork.
In the afternoon, participants headed out onto the water to put their new knowledge into practice aboard boats generously volunteered by SCCYC skippers:

The on-the-water session gave participants a firsthand taste of the excitement of racing while building confidence in a fun, supportive environment.
A heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteer instructors, skippers, and the Women’s Sailing Association for making this event such a tremendous success. It was a wonderful day of education, mentorship, and fellowship, and we look forward to welcoming even more sailors to future racing clinics.
